David H. Crowley, Civil War Veteran
By Don Zebe (don.zebe@cbcworldwide.com), Crowley Clan Newsletter, July 2013
Hello Crowley Family Members, I have been researching my line of Crowleys. David Harold Crowley is my 2nd Great Grandfather; he was born in December 1846, and baptized Catholic at the Parish of St. Finbarr, Cork, Ireland. I suspect he was born in the same town. His father was Cornelius Crowley, and his mother was Catherine Dullea. This is where I am at a dead end, I need help. Can you assist me?
His daughter Lillian Teresa Crowley married Alexander VS Zebe, hence my family name. Can you help? I would like to find as many descendants of David and Cornelius as possible. I am hoping I can find many descendants and hold a reunion.
Thank you in advance.
Note: His obituary states that David Crowley was one of the last surviving members of the NY Irish 69th. He died at age 84 and was buried at Cypress Hills Cemetery in the Bronx. David came to the United States at the age of three with his parents. At the age of 16 he enlisted in the Union Army where he served in the artillery and the infantry.
By his request, he was buried in his Civil War uniform. He worked for the Secret Service for more than 20 years after his discharge from the federal forces.
